Twenty years in the making
Two decades with one employer is a rare thing these days, and it is worth pausing on what that actually represents. When Carl joined the company, the group looked very different to the six-branch operation it is today – and through all of that growth and change, he has been a constant presence at the Wrexham head office. Milestones like this don’t happen by accident: they happen when people enjoy the work, trust the people around them and can see the business going somewhere.
Credit control is one of those roles that rarely gets the limelight but that every distribution business depends on. Keeping accounts healthy, relationships with customers on good terms and cash moving as it should is painstaking, detail-driven work – and doing it well for twenty years is a serious achievement.
A little history
For anyone new to the company, Cable Services was incorporated in August 1971, with the very first invoice raised that September. From those beginnings in Wrexham, the group has grown into a specialist supplier of low, medium and high voltage cable and cable accessories with branches in Wrexham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Stone, Swindon and Guildford, serving the utility, industrial, rail and renewable energy sectors. A milestone like Carl’s twenty years covers a remarkable chunk of that story – including some of the busiest years of growth the group has seen.
It is also why moments like this get marked properly rather than passing quietly. When the Chairman and the Group Managing Director both take time out of their day to shake a colleague’s hand, it reflects something we believe across the business: companies don’t build fifty-year reputations – people do, one working relationship at a time.
Long service is the norm here
Carl is far from alone. Across the Cable Services Group there are colleagues in every branch who measure their service in decades rather than years, and we mark those milestones deliberately – because a business that has been trading since 1971 knows its reputation is carried by its people. The values our founder Joe Williams built the company on – service second to none, and doing right by customers and staff alike – only survive when experienced people stay to pass them on.
If you have dealt with our accounts team at any point over the last two decades, the chances are good that Carl has played a part in keeping things running smoothly for you – often without you ever knowing his name. That quiet reliability is exactly the sort of thing this anniversary celebrates.
Congratulations, Carl
From everyone across the group – the warehouse teams, the branches, the sales desks and the directors – congratulations on a fantastic milestone, Carl, and thank you for everything you have contributed over the past twenty years. Here’s to the years ahead.
