We were delighted to be offered the opportunity to visit Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Open day for supporters. Our Purchasing Manager – Kathryn Roberts and Marketing Manager – Huw Evans took the opportunity to learn more of the work and support the hospice offers and also had the chance to have a tour of the amazing facilities they have for both patients and family members.
Hope House Children’s Hospices is a charity that gives every local child with a life-threatening condition and their family access to professional care and improves their quality of life from the point of diagnosis.
Open days like this give supporters a rare chance to see exactly where their fundraising goes. Walking around the hospice, it quickly becomes clear just how much thought has gone into every corner of the building – from the specialist care facilities to the family accommodation and the quiet spaces designed to give parents and siblings room to breathe during the hardest of times. It was a privilege to meet the people who make it all happen and to hear first-hand how every pound raised is put to work.
About Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith
Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices care for seriously ill children and their families across Shropshire, Cheshire, Powys and North Wales. The charity currently cares for around 265 children, providing respite stays, specialist nursing care, therapy and counselling sessions, end-of-life care and bereavement support – all offered free of charge to the families who need it.
What many people don’t realise is that it costs in the region of £10 million a year to run these services, and the charity relies overwhelmingly on voluntary income to do it. Donations, legacies, charity shops, fundraising events and the weekly lottery all play a part in keeping the doors open – which is exactly why support from local businesses and individuals matters so much.
Why our Wrexham branch chose Hope House
Supporting the hospice isn’t a one-off gesture for us. Choosing where our fundraising goes is something the team takes seriously, and after seeing the charity’s work up close, the decision to keep backing Hope House was an easy one. As our Marketing Manager Huw Evans explains:
“Each year, our Wrexham branch chooses local charities to support around our branch, and for the 2nd year running, they have chosen to support this hospice. Over this time, we have been able to donate over £8,000 to the hospice from our own raffles, dress down days and our 150 club. Its a fantastic charity to support, and having spent time speaking with Bethan Young and other members of the team, there determination to “making a positive difference” to so many people that come to use the hospice is clear to see” – Huw Evans
