Nia Jones, part of our Purchasing team in Wrexham has committed to taking to the skies in April all in aid of raising money for Crohn’s and Colitis UK Charity. ” I have always wanted to try skydiving and what better way to do it than raising money for a charity that is close to home. I want to do this to raise awareness of Crohn’s and colitis and how it affects those who suffer with it both physically and mentally. Up until the start of last year I had never even heard of these conditions before and I’m sure there are still many people out there that are not aware of them.” said Nia

About Crohn’s & Colitis UK
Crohn’s and Colitis affect far more people than most of us realise – around 1 in 123 people in the UK live with one of these conditions, and this year some 25,000 people will receive a diagnosis, many of them under 30. Crohn’s & Colitis UK supports them with trusted information, a helpline, a network of around 50 local groups across the country, and funding for research into better diagnosis and treatment. For a charity tackling conditions that are lifelong and often invisible, awareness matters as much as money – which is exactly why Nia’s jump is about both.
Why awareness matters
Because Crohn’s and Colitis are largely hidden conditions, people living with them often deal with symptoms, flare-ups and hospital visits that colleagues and friends never see – and for one in four people, getting a diagnosis takes more than a year. Talking about the conditions openly, as Nia is doing, chips away at that. We are proud to see a member of our purchasing team take that on, quite literally, at several thousand feet.
Nia’s chosen cause is also a personal one – as she says herself, it is close to home, and fundraisers with a story behind them tend to be the ones that stick with people. A first-ever skydive, a charity that means something, and a workplace full of colleagues cheering her on: it is everything we love about the fundraising culture across our branches, from canal walks to marathons to Christmas tree collections.

Charity runs deep at Cable Services – every branch backs causes in its own community – but it takes a special kind of commitment to jump out of a plane for one.
