Why short-notice training matters
On distribution network projects, certification is not a nice-to-have – installers need current, product-specific certification in place before jointing work can go ahead. When a project timetable moves or a new product is specified late in the day, a jointing crew without the right paperwork means a stalled site, idle plant and money draining away by the hour. Being able to get two installers trained, assessed and certified within a day – and back on the job the following morning – is exactly the kind of support that keeps a project on programme.
About the course
The training covered the TE Connectivity 11kV cold applied joint, delivered as product familiarisation based on the manufacturer’s own installation instructions – so what the installers practised on the bench is precisely what they will do in the field. Cold applied jointing systems are widely used across 11kV networks, and correct installation is everything: a well-made joint disappears into the network for decades, while a poorly made one announces itself in the worst possible way. Both installers completed the course to a high standard.
Training in the right environment
Short notice doesn’t mean short-changed. The course ran in our purpose-built training facility – a dedicated space with a fully equipped workshop, away from the noise and interruptions of a working branch – so the installers got the same focused environment and the same standard of instruction as delegates on a course booked months in advance. Courses follow the requirements of the individual DNOs, and delegates leave with the certification their project sign-off depends on.
For contractors like Balfour Beatty, working across live utility frameworks with tight delivery commitments, that combination of speed and rigour is precisely what a supply chain partner should offer.
