The man behind the training school

Four years may be a shorter stretch than some of the twenty and twenty-five year milestones we have celebrated recently, but few people have made a bigger mark in that time. As Technical and Training Manager, Gary runs everything that moves through the Cable Training School – from scheduling manufacturer-backed jointing and termination courses at our purpose-built facilities in Wrexham and Glasgow, to fielding the technical questions that land on his desk from customers and colleagues every single day. If a course has run smoothly, a certification has arrived on time, or a tricky product question has been answered at speed, the chances are Gary was behind it.

Training that keeps projects moving

Under Gary’s stewardship, the training operation has become one of the group’s most valued services – delivering courses across low, medium and high voltage systems, aligned to the requirements of the individual DNOs, and flexible enough to accommodate short-notice requests when a customer’s project depends on it. You can read more about what Cable Training Services offers on the blog, and Gary would be the first to tell you the door is always open for a conversation about your training needs.

Why a dedicated training manager matters

Plenty of suppliers sell cable accessories; far fewer can train your installers to fit them correctly, certify them against the manufacturer’s installation instructions and answer the technical questions that come up on site afterwards. Having a dedicated Technical and Training Manager is what makes that possible. It means training is somebody’s whole job rather than an afterthought – courses are planned properly, workshops are kept current with the latest product ranges from partners like TE Connectivity, Lovink, Pfisterer, Safetrack and Furse, and there is always a named person to call when a customer needs certification arranged around a project deadline rather than a standard calendar.

It is also a role that connects nearly every part of the group – sales teams lean on Gary for technical backup, branches route customer queries to him, and our manufacturer partners work with him to keep authorised training up to date. Four years in, it is hard to imagine the place without him.

Congratulations, Gary

Thank you for four years of energy, expertise and problem-solving – and for the many jointers and installers who have left our workshops better equipped because of the courses you run. Here’s to many more.

If you have training requirements coming up – routine or last-minute – drop Gary a message or email the training team, and he will find a way to make it work. Four years of evidence says he usually does.

Congratulations once again on the milestone, Gary.
